Tony Merola

TONY MEROLA
FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Tony Merola is a combat-decorated Army Ranger who served with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment from 2001 to 2005. He deployed five times to Afghanistan and Iraq, including Operation Rhino in October 2001—one of the first missions of the Global War on Terror.

After leaving the military, Tony faced a long, personal battle with the invisible wounds of war: traumatic brain injury, PTSD, addiction, and suicidal ideation. In 2023, everything changed when he connected with Defenders of Freedom and entered Resiliency Brain Health’s intensive TBI treatment program. That healing experience was a turning point—and a new beginning.

With DOF’s support, Tony launched the Oklahoma chapter to bring that same hope to other veterans. His recovery journey is rooted in a holistic lifestyle: gardening, fitness, breathwork, journaling, nutrition, and mental discipline. Now, he’s building a healing retreat where veterans can recover from trauma, reconnect with purpose, and rediscover the joy of family, community, and service.

LIZZ PINCHEIRA
SECRETARY

“For me, DOFOK is more than service—it’s family.”

Brandon Bunten served with honor in the U.S. Army as part of Easy Company, 2-506 Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Fort Campbell. He deployed to Iraq (2005–2006) and Afghanistan (2008–2009), earning the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat.

After leaving active duty, Brandon worked in the oil and natural gas industry before returning overseas as a security contractor for Triple Canopy, serving at the U.S. Embassy and Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center in Iraq. Today, he works for ONEOK, bringing the same discipline and dedication that defined his military career.

Brandon’s connection to Defenders of Freedom began in 2011, during his medical process for TBI and PTS, when founder Donna Cranston helped his family and invited him to his first DOF golf outing in Dallas. That moment sparked a lasting commitment. As Vice President of DOFOK, he’s driven to ensure other warriors receive the same life-changing support—healing wounds seen and unseen, and building a family that never stops serving.

“Every veteran deserves a space to feel safe, seen, and supported.”

Lizz Pincheira proudly served in the U.S. Army’s Military Police Corps, stationed at Guantánamo Bay. After transitioning from the military, she found renewed purpose through Defenders of Freedom—volunteering for over a decade before helping launch the Oklahoma chapter.

Lizz brings nearly 10 years of leadership experience in property management and financial technology, with a focus on operations, systems optimization, and client service. She’s also a devoted advocate for veteran healing, inspired by the transformation she’s seen in her own family and fellow warriors.

At DOFOK, Lizz helps foster a community where veterans feel safe, seen, and supported. As a proud mom of two, she lives a life rooted in love, service, and connection—whether it’s on the water, around the table, or in the heart of the DOFOK mission.

Stephanee with Phil the Donkey

STEPHANEE MARKEE-BECERRA
EXEUCTIVE DIRECTOR

“No warrior should have to fight for healing alone—we link
arms and walk it out together.”

Stephanee Markee-Becerra is a retired U.S. Army veteran who believes in standing in the hard places—shoulder to shoulder with our veterans. As a Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivor, she has turned her own healing journey into a steady commitment to help other warriors find restoration, strength, and hope.

With a background in victim advocacy and mental health support, Stephanee brings both professional training and lived experience to the mission. She is currently pursuing higher education in clinical mental health counseling, with a focus on trauma-informed, whole-person care—because real recovery must address the body, mind, and spirit.

Stephanee also has extensive experience in equine-assisted learning and believes deeply in the healing power of horses for veterans navigating trauma, transition, and identity loss. She sees connection—with animals, nature, and community—as a cornerstone of lasting change.

Joining DOFOK at the end of 2025, Stephanee is honored to serve our tribe and help ensure every veteran knows they are seen, supported, and never alone.
